Explorer Belt 2025 - Scouts Black Pear

In July 2025, we're going on our Explorer Belt expedition!

The Explorer Belt's one of the top awards available to Scout Network. To get it, we'll be planning and doing a 10 day expedition abroad, and completing projects along the way. That might be walking, cycling, paddling, public transport, horse riding, or a mixture.

If you're a Scout Network member (or interested in joining), or you're an Explorer Scout who will be reaching 18 by the expedition, you're welcome to join in.

What's decided so far?

We've pencilled in the 30th June to 11th July. It might shift by a few days either way, but it'll be these weeks.

The maximum budget is £2,000-£2,500 per person, but if we can do it cheaper, we will. We can also fundraise if we need to, and there's extra support available if needed.

We've got at least one team's worth of people. Depending on who else is interested, we could end up with two teams.

Where are we going?

The shortlist is:

Greece (project could be something to do with the ancient Greek Gods)
Italian/Swiss border (project could be related to food)
Iceland (project could be related to fishing)
Bavaria (project could be investigating differences between urban and rural Germany)
Denmark (project could be something to do with investigating why the quality of life is so good)
Italy (project could be something to do with the Roman Empire)

We're currently looking into a bit more detail for all of these, ready to decide which one we want. If we do have two teams, we could always pick different options.

What's next?

On Thursday 16th November 8:30pm, we're meeting up to go through the shortlist and share the research we've done into each option. Hopefully we'll end up with a decision, or at least a shorter shortlist.

After that, we'll work out when we need to start training and fundraising etc.
